SIA drives the adoption of the qualified digital signature through telematic identity verification
Madrid, March 21, 2023.- SIA, Indra’s leading cybersecurity firm through which Minsait (also an Indra company) provides services in this field is launching the qualified digital signature service with telematic registration that can remotely verify the signer’s identity through the use of video identification. The above will eliminate the need for the user’s physical presence for the registration and issuance of the digital certificates required for this kind of signature, which is the one that offers the greatest guarantees of legal certainty.
The new system, which SIA is presenting this week with its application to Digital Health at Inforsalud 2023, the National Health Informatics Congress, allows these signatures to be considered equivalent to handwritten ones. The process is really simple and intuitive; applicants will need less than a minute to complete the process with a camera via their PC or mobile device. Following the verification of the process by SIA’s operators, within a few minutes the new holder of a qualified certificate will be able to begin using advanced and/or qualified digital signatures.
This function, which SIA has made fully operational and ready to offer customers a fully telematic and secure experience, “entails removing the final barrier preventing the adoption of the qualified digital signature; this is a major step that will further enhance the relationship with users when it comes to obtaining their digital signatures in the simplest way and with the greatest possible degrees of technical and legal security,” declared SIA CEO Roberto Espina.
The option of using a qualified signature was not feasible in all use cases, as in most situations it required the user to travel to an identity verification point to enable a registration officer to perform the task. With this new formula, added Espina, “SIA will make it easier for organizations to further the digital transformation of their businesses with security and full legal guarantees and protect the parties from potential fraud, supervising all the details of the process through its technological platform to demonstrate the legitimacy of the agreement in the event that any conflict arises.”
The benefits that SIA can bring customers with this new service are clear; it can reliably identify them via any location or device with a camera and increase the efficiency of the organization by saving time and money, given that it is a 100% online process endowed with maximum security. Moreover, in business terms, it facilitates international expansion by eliminating any physical barriers.
In addition, the practical applications of the qualified digital certificates issued by means of video identification offered by SIA as a Qualified Trust Service Provider on its cloud platform are numerous; the most significant ones range from the qualified digital onboarding of customers, with the guarantee of the qualified signature with an electronic certificate, to the procurement of services, e.g. banking and basic citizen identification systems, such as the Cl@ve system which allows a larger number of procedures with the State administrations to be performed.
Its implementation comes in the wake of SIA’s evolution of its signature technology platform to provide it with this capability. It recently received the official approval from the supervisory body, the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence, after a thorough audit and compliance process to recognize SIA as an accredited provider for the telematic issuance of these certificates.
This important milestone for SIA’s qualified signature offering is a response to Ministerial Order ETD/465/2021, which, more than a year ago, began to regulate the issuance of qualified digital certificates through video identification in our country, thus placing our regulatory framework on a par with that of other European Union countries.
SIA employs more than 1,600 professionals specializing in cybersecurity, of whom around a hundred are experts in this field and responsible for the fact that 150 million documents in the public administration and private sector are signed electronically every year, mainly in Europe and Latin America.
