SIA deploys Smart Borders at 12 Italian airports to integrate Entry-Exit System (EES) and reduce check-in time to one minute
The EU requires the implementation of the Entry-Exit System (EES) for border control of third-country nationals travelling to Europe across borders outside the Schengen area. Member States must integrate this system into their border management processes, personnel and infrastructure at border crossing points.
To meet these European requirements and manage the flow of more than 60 million passengers per year with security and efficiency, ADR, Sagat and Gruppo Save, managers of the 12 Italian airports (Rome Fiumicino, Rome Ciampino, Turin, Bologna, Trieste, Cagliari, Alghero, Olbia, Genoa, Venice, Verona, Treviso), have chosen SIA's Smart Borders solution. By installing 400 self-service kiosks and 30 eGates, they have managed to reduce check-in times in the country to one minute.
EES involves the creation of a unified information system to record data on the entry and exit movements of short-stay third-country nationals crossing the EU's external borders. It centralises and stores information including the non-EU traveller's name, travel document, biometric data (fingerprints and facial image) and the date, time and place of entry and/or exit, in full respect of fundamental rights and data protection, thanks to the CIS solution.
